Dark Matter
Dark Matter won the neoreactionary journal title poll by a landslide. Personally, I was pulling for “Northern Latitudes Quarterly,” but that was near the bottom. Humorous write-in titles included “Compendium of Pseudo-Intellectual Suggestions”, “The Radish is already doing this”, and “Basement Dwelling Losers Anonymous.”

I’m sure there are some bugs, so if you find them, let me know.
Someone had suggested putting up .mobi as well as .pdf files, but I found that the .mobi files were acting quirky, and anyway, there are several different file types people use for e-readers, all of which are easily convertible from .pdf.
Why did I set this up? I set it up for the same reason other bloggers set up an individual site for Land’s “Dark Enlightenment” sequence and for Moldbug’s best posts. It’s important, I think, to save our more interesting posts from archival obscurity. 75% of what we produce is probably throw-away, just like 75% of what any writer produces in any context is throw-away. But the things that are worth saving, we should save in a more permanent, edited form.
Obviously, as a quarterly journal, Dark Matter serves a very different purpose from that served by the excellent Theden.tv, which you can and should visit frequently. And, yes, the Radish is already doing this, but DM’s content will have a broader scope. It will also be, for better or worse, far less witty, ironic, visual, and humorous than the Radish.
I would have plumped for “The Journal of Forbidden Thoughts”

A couple of things:
1. The image with the mouse-over is really neat, but it doesn’t work on phones or — I’m guessing — tablets.
2. The reason I suggested doing epubs or mobis is that they are both formats which handle resizing to different sized screens pretty well, maintaining formatting of chapter and section headings as well as block quotes. (Epub is better than mobi, but a markup format like tex, rst, markdown or html is better still.) PDF is kinda focussed on A4. I’ve not tried converting yet. We’ll see how it goes.
3. I think a two-column format for the PDF would work better.

Cool, ok, when I convert to epub I basically lose all the formatting.

Thanks for letting me know. I was having a similar issue with e-reader files. I think one has to format a text specifically for these file types, separate from a design for .pdf.
Also, why wouldn’t the roll-over effect work on tablets or phones?

Tablets/phones don’t use cursors.
February 19, 2014 at 3:59 am
Hmm. So what does the cursor look like on tablets and phones? Just raw text over the image? Or is the formatting all fucked up too? Or can you just not see anything?
February 19, 2014 at 1:36 pm
On my iPhone, there’s no cursor, I just see the images. When I finger-tap one I see the text appear while the browser loads the linked content.

So you can at least access the articles?

I can, although the PDF’s small font and single column format is quite difficult to read on my phone or kindle. On my computer screen it’s fine though.

Shame this came after Goulding’s exodus. Could you create a FB page, Scharly?
February 18, 2014 at 8:10 pm
Is there an NR scene on Facebook? And, yes, I wish Goulding had fleshed out his ideas into fuller posts. They would have definitely made it into the first issue.

I have a few neoreactionaries added as friends on Facebook, but activity on that platform is very sparse, unless you want to liven it up or something.

I suppose trying to liven up Facebook with our evil presence might be worth a try.

Nick has opened up Urban Future to FB. I have some friends who are sleeper NR (i.e. they don’t even know it), think FB might be a soft enough platform to get them curious.

is Scharlach dead? If so, is there anywhere we could send a ham to his widow?

“all of which are easily convertible from .pdf”
No, PDF is an output format, not a source format. Please put up the source file so that readers can convert to their choice of destination format. Can also put up PDF for speed reading.
